25 Local Government Council Chairmen have been sworn in to fill the gaps in the Delta State 3rd tier of government.
Speaking at the swearing in ceremony, the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori expressed profound excitement describing it as a new beginning for local government administration in the state.
Governor Oborevwori appreciated the people of Delta State for turning out in good numbers to express their franchise despite the heavy downpour. He also commended security agencies for providing adequate security cover for the election and the electoral umpire, DSIEC, for ensuring that the voting process was seamless and in line with expectations.
The Governor also urged the elected chairmen to reciprocate the mandate given to them by the electorate and give preference to the needs and aspirations of the people with the aim of delivering good governance.
‘’I charged the chairmen not to run a one-man show but to work collaboratively with their vice, the legislative arm, and other critical stakeholders. I emphasized that they must shun wasteful spending and extravagant lifestyles, and instead embrace modesty, fiscal discipline, prudent management, judicious allocation of resources, and excellent project delivery.’’
The swearing in ceremony for elected council chairmen and their vice held at the Dome Event Centre in Asaba.
