A seven man committee has been inaugurated by Governor Agbu Kefas to provide advisory roles on local government Autonomy in Taraba State

Inaugurated on Monday in the state capital Jalingo, the committees assignment is to advise and guide the state government on appropriate steps toward a successful implementation of the local government autonomy.

This is due to the recent Supreme Court judgement giving full autonomy for the 774 local government councils across Nigeria.

The Taraba Governor said the formation of the committee is a very significant milestone in the state as it will lead to a more democratic, accountable and efficient governance system adding that the court judgement is in line with his administration’s commitment to centralization and local empowerment.

According to Daily Post Nigeria, Governor Kefas maintained that the judgement reaffirmed his plans to carry out elections in the state on the 18th of November 2023 and swear in the chairmen on the 23rd of November 2023, the steps, as opined by him, were to ensure that local government councils are equipped with the mandate and legitimacy to serve their communities effectively.
