Veteran Nigerian singer, songwriter and actress, Ms Onyeka Onwenu is dead.
According to reports, she died on Tuesday evening at a hospital in Lagos after she slumped. She was said to have just finished performing at the birthday party of a famous boardroom guru, Mrs Stella Okoli.
The reports added that she was taken to Redington Hospital but she did not make it.
Born on 31st January 1952, the late singer-turned-politician and rights activist was dubbed “The Elegant Stallion” by the Nigerian press.
She was at a time the chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture. In 2013, she was appointed the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Women Development.
Her numerous songs include, “Ekwe” and “Wait for Me” which she sang with Juju Maestro, King Sunny Ade.
