Nationwide Protest: Reps Members Call For Dialogue

As the call for a nationwide protest continue to gain traction among citizens of Nigeria, mostly youths, some members of the nation’s House of Representatives have called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to dialogue with leaders of the proposed protest.

The impending protest that has been gaining momentum on social media lately is due to the present economic hardship evident in the high cost of living, unemployment and food scarcity.

The aggrieved persons seeking a nationwide protest on August 1st 2024, announced their thoughts in viral fliers and post on various social media platforms stating that it is their rights to demand better living conditions.

Reacting to the development in a plenary session at the House of Representatives, the member representing Goronyo/Gada Federal Constituency, Sokoto State, under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Honorable Bashir Usman Gorau, said such protest is aimed at undermining the peace and unity of the country ‘’For every organization that is organizing protest is definitely undermining the peace and unity of our dear country’’ Bashir Usman Gorau.

On her part, All Progressives Congress (APC) member, Honorable Fatima Talba of Nangere/Potiskum Federal Contituency, Yobe State called on the DSS to dialogue with leaders of the protest and ensure calm ‘’DSS must work hard to find if they can lay, at least be able to scout and get those people that are instigating, or the leaders of these protest, so that they can dialogue, we can dialogue with them, let’s talk to them.’’
